Weather proved unfavorable for the Legion boys affair honoring a soldier dead yet the event proceeded. The original program was carried out despite the adverse conditions and held under official auspices with attendees present.
DeKalb observe Armistice Day with a memorial tree planting at St Mary's church, a two minute tribute at memorial clock, and a parade to Teachers' College where Captain George M. Weichell spoke on Americanization. The day featured a military band concert, prayers, and a grand finale parade with floats and veterans groups. Local officials and Legion members attended, with strong civilian turnout despite new snow.
Charles Raymond Collins 17 died at Kankakee hospital after pneumonia. Born January 2 1904 in Gifford Illinois, he lived in DeKalb ten years and attended St Viator College Bourbonnais, in his second year. He is survived by his mother Mrs Anna Collins sister Miss Mary and brothers Dennis and Joseph. Funeral to be at Penfield Illinois with burial near his father. Knights of Pythias will plant a memorial tree Sunday at two. E R Morris C C.
Bulletin from Sokio Japan reports Baron Korekiyo Takahashi chosen as premier to succeed slain Prime Minister Hara. Takahashi, formerly finance minister, represents a Liberal victory in the political shift following the assassination.
Fred McLean, a well known librarian, recently had surgery at Presbyterian hospital in Chicago. He was home briefly this week then returns to hospital for a second operation. His daughter in Chicago ensures he receives The Chronicle daily and he reads all news and the classified section in bed. He hopes the second operation is not as serious and plans to be discharged soon.
Wireless tests show Grand Opera by wireless can reach nationwide audiences. Mary Garden and Chicago Grand Opera Company members may perform next week via radio, with Edith Mason’s aria broadcast to 50 440 listeners in multiple cities. Demonstrations end with congratulatory messages from wireless operators as opera launches next Monday.
