Giant dirigible rests as DeKalb honors fallen heroes

A large DeKalb ceremony remembered soldiers and sailors who died serving the country. A parade from Lincoln Highway to Park Avenue led to the Egyptian theatre for tributes presided by Mayor Lindstrom. The afternoon included speeches by Thomas O'Meara and musical numbers, with commemorations at Malta and local cemeteries.

Carriers Authorized as Collectors for Chronicle

Chronicle notes only regular carrier boys may collect on their routes. Last Thursday two youths posing as carriers attempted to collect payments from subscribers without a proper receipt or paper. Carriers carry a metal record book and issue slips for each weekly subscription. subscribers can call 263 to verify any doubt.

Rev John T Stone to Deliver Graduation Address

Rev John Timothy Stone of Chicago will give the baccalaureate address at the State Teachers College graduation exercises tomorrow evening to avoid clashing with high school events. President Adams says the program starts promptly at 8 00 p m. The service includes a mixed chorus from the entire faculty and Magnusson and Rev Towles of this city will assist.

Grand Jury to Indict Two Monday in Sycamore

The Grand Jury in Sycamore will consider two cases at 10:00 a.m. Monday as States Attorney Castle plans indictments. One involves Ronaldo Espinosa shot after allegedly attempting to extort a Mexican housewife in Cortland, with charges including assault with a deadly weapon and extortion. The other targets Roy Gibbs on a fictitious check charge from February 11, 1827, for $150, tied to a past con and alleged unauthorized medical activity. Gibbs, once a fugitive, was brought back from an Indiana penitentiary.

City Council Set To Meet On Tuesday Night

The June city council meeting is scheduled for next Tuesday to handle routine business. Officials expect a decision on a city waterworks survey, with bids reviewed by the waterworks committee. An adjourned June session will later pass an ordinance to pave Oak Street from Fourth to Tenth streets.

Whitman Retires After 25 Years Leading Foreign Languages

Miss Mary Ross Whitman steps down as head of the Foreign Language Department at the State Teachers College after 25 years, becoming associate professor emeritus. She helped evolve the department from Ancient and Modern Languages to focus on foreign languages and conducted frequent European explorations with students.

Fawcett Car Damaged In Head On Parked Vehicle Collision

Harland Frye driving a light car struck a vehicle owned by Tom Fawcett parked on South Fourth street late last evening. Both cars suffered heavy damage. Frye had minor cuts and bruises. Fawcett had left his car in high gear to prevent coasting, which contributed to the gear damage and crash.

Legion Meet Scheduled At Knights of Pythias Ball

American Legion members are notified of a meeting Monday night at the Knights of Pythias ball. Many are planned for the Le ston celebration on June 28. A luncheon will follow the meeting, served by a committee led by Albert Hubbard.

Chute Jumper Injures Leg at DeKalb County Airport

Harold Anderson, son of Ben Anderson, sprained his ankle during a parachute jump at the DeKalb County Airport. He nearly completed a perfect takeoff but wind diverted the chute over a fence, twisting his ankle as he landed. Over three thousand people viewed the event with many airplane rides offered. a large floor light failed to operate fully during the evening.

Large Gravel Deposit Attracts Attention In Paw Paw
