Death of Mrs Abhie Brewer of Ashton

Mrs Abhie Brewer aged about 87, of Geneseo since last October, died Wednesday at the home of her son Frank Brewer in Geneseo. She was a respected Ashton resident, mother of Dr Brewer of Shabbona and two other sons Charles of Verne Minn and Deason of Shabbona, with a daughter Carrie who died young. Funeral plans pending, Rev Brewer among mourners.

Roads need wage cuts to trim railroad rates

Director Parmalee of the Bureau of Railway Economies says operating expenses must be reduced by about 800 million dollars annually before rail managers can seek freight rate reductions from the Interstate Commerce Commission. He notes no general rate reduction will occur until late summer or fall, but believes lower costs would eventually lower commodity prices and revive business, given railroads now run nearly 700 million dollars a year short of their six percent net income target.

Yesterday in DeKalb a large community paid homage to Clinton R. Glidden with services at the Methodist church.
