States Attorney Lowell B. Smith visits the city to decide on Archie Flemming’s case for harassing women and students, and a separate custody dispute where a father regains his children after taking them back to the streets, with police involvement and concerns over protections.
W Jett Lauck a consulting economist told the railroad labor board that sugar should sell for 11 1 2 cents a pound while current prices range 20 to 25 cents. He warned sugar gougers will take about 600 million dollars from Americans this year and urged wage increases for railroad workers.
Local greenhouse instruments forecast a heavy frost tonight and advise owners to shield vegetation especially tomato plants. With scarce supplies and risky spring weather, every precaution should be taken to prevent damage.
Work to remove the old wooden wall on the north side of the Superior Washing Machine Company building has begun. A new foundation will be laid and a brick wall erected to improve the structure and serviceability.
T J Kelsey plans to return to DeKalb soon. He has a lot next to H J Olson on West Lincoln Highway and will start building when a mortgage is procured. The housing shortage is easing with about 99 houses either under construction or planned. Illinois weather: fair, cool tonight, Friday fair with rising temperatures. Mr and Mrs E R Allen of Eldo Tre visit their son and daughter in DeKalb. the Allen man is seeking medical treatment in Chicago.
Tonight Eugene Obrien stars in his latest success "Her Wife's Money Princess" at the theater. Adults pay 22 cents with tax and children 12 cents with tax.
Polish minister Prince Casimir Lubomirski outlined a strategy to form independent states in Ukraine White Russia Lithuania and Latvia as a barrier against Bolshevism He said Poland will not advance into Soviet Russia and hopes Western powers aid to save culture and civilization from Bolshevism Odessa reports noted Ukrainian troops reportedly occupy the city per a dispatch from Washington May 18.
President Wilson vetoed the legislative executive and judiciary appropriation bill citing objection to a provision creating a joint congressional committee to supervise all government publications. The senate agreed to a Knox peace resolution vote at four p.m. Saturday with Kellogg supporting earlier remarks for peace and end of war powers.
Hibbing April 1 a local man John Alden formerly of this city and owner of a music store found a pocketbook on Mahoning street. Inside was 80 in cash. He returned it to the owner after finding a card inside.
A dispatch from Constantinople says a Soviet has been established at Erivan in Russian Armenia and that bolshevism is spreading rapidly through Anatolia after the old government escaped. The report comes from a United Press dispatch dated May 13.
Colonel Milton J. Foreman, head of the Illinois American Legion, will visit DeKalb next Tuesday for the state membership drive. He arrives from Aurora, attends a luncheon at Odd Fellows Hall, speaks on Memorial Day and the Legion’s goals, then proceeds to Rockford and Sycamore. Local committee includes Mayor Wagley and Thomas Murray.
Two events pull tonight in De Kalb the American Legion picture show and Dr J Stanley Brown lecture for the Federation of Women's Clubs. The Brown lecture ends by nine to allow viewers to attend the 12th Army action in moving pictures at the Armory after the show.
The American Legion executive committee plans to rush a soldier bonus bill through Congress in a Washington session next week. They will stay in session until passage or a recess. if the bill fails a delegation will press the convention to back the bonus.
Dr Has health inspector reports very few contagious diseases in the city. Only measles remains and only one or two cases. Last year at this time sickness was higher, suggesting health conditions are improving despite public concern.
The Senate adopted unanimously a resolution urging the President to provide a warship and a battalion of marines for protection of American interests in Armenia if compatible with public interests. It also extends congratulations to Armenia on U S recognition of independence.
Work to repair and paint the Huntley Park stand pipe will begin around Monday or Tuesday. Delays may occur as paint must be sourced from De Kalb due to volume. Interior cleaning depends on tank condition.

United States officials and railway leaders meet in New York on May 19 to discuss whether to extend the wheat price guarantee past June 1. Julius Barses of the Grain Corporation warns of consequences if the stabilization program ends with the price near 2.36 dollars per bushel.
As weather improves, High school cadets under drill master Mr Foedich will train in maneuvers for a sham battle. A field day is planned for May 22 with the mock conflict included, though officials warn the risk from real and blank ammunition is similar and safety is stressed.
DeKalb will meet Hawthorn team next Sunday at Pershing Park in a game described as a top matchup. The DeKalb lineup remains Glenn at hex and Moran catching, with coaching by Hawthornes and Aurora ties noted.
