DeKalb Parades to Celebrate Liberty Loan Victory

DeKalb surpassed its Third Liberty Loan quota with a 285000 subscription against 250000 goal. A half mile parade led by Marshal McCurdy featured civic and military groups, floats, and a Chicago Captain Gorby speech at Third Street and Lincoln Highway.

Adoration Ceremony At St. Mary's Draws 80 Children

At St. Mary's church yesterday a late mass began 40 hours of Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament with 80 children participating. The processional featured cross bearers acolites altar boys and girls in white veils, with blossoms strewn from baskets. Visiting clergy aided Father J. A. Solon as services continue through today and tomorrow.

Organize for Stamp Drive Meeting at Congregational Church

Tomorrow night at eight o clock a gathering at the Congregational church will organize a township committee for the war savings and drift stamp drive. DeKalb township aims to buy 191000 worth of stamps by year end with city and farm participation urged and the Maximum Club pledging 1000 worth each.

Adam Cliffe of DeKalb county serves as governor of Illinois for several days as both the governor and lieutenant governor are out of state. The posting follows his election as president pro tem of the senate, with the line of succession placing him next in rank. Lieutenant Governor Jack Oglesby has been away, and Governor Lowden visited his son Pullman Lowden with his regiment. Germans Introduce Gas via Bottled Sprung Bombs

In Lorraine sector near Montdidier American guns shell Montdidier and nearby roads while air activity rises. Two German planes shot down and another captured. Germans reportedly use a new gas method involving glass bottles sprung to release nauseous fumes. An American patrol in Ancerviller crossed German lines, overran an observation post, taking four prisoners and killing three.

British troops push 1200 yards on a mile long front between the Ancre and the Somme with Haig reporting 150 prisoners and two machine guns captured in local actions. Australians also gain new ground as fronts extend while losses are described as light for the British.

Child Dies at Home in Carlton

The nine year old son of Mr and Mrs Chauncey Broughton died this morning at six after a brief illness of measles and pneumonia at the family home near Carlton. The remaining three siblings are ill and the death was a severe shock to the community.

Gardens Lecture Tonight by International Harvester Speaker
