On May 1, violent clashes occurred in Paris near Quai de la Reine as police clashed with workers. Deputies and laborers faced injuries and mass detentions while transit halted across the city. Across Europe, Britain, Vienna, and Berlin reported near total work stoppages in a day of solidarity.

George Ackerman, about 70, longtime local leader and former Kendall County sheriff, shot himself at his Kaneville home around six o clock after months of ill health. Found by his wife, he reportedly despondent over health issues. He had lived in Kaneville for 20 years and was a well known rural figure.
DeKalb county's largest taxpayer, the Chicago and Northwestern Railway Company, paid its DeKalb county taxes at the courthouse on Thursday, the amount totaling 38764.71 dollars.
The American Steel & Wire company is moving to erect worker housing and buyers have begun selecting lots and viewing plans. Installment financing over ten years will cover home purchases, with several plans offered. Mrs. Nancy Ninich of DeKalb, a respected resident, died after a six month illness. funeral arrangements depend on the arrival of her son. New York May 1 The Atlantic fleet led by the flagship Pennsylvania entered New York harbor shortly after 11 o clock and headed up the Hudson to anchorage. The Pennsylvania carried Secretary of the Navy Daniels Admiral Wilson and other high navy officers. The fleet was to remain in harbor two weeks after maneuvers in southern waters.
A man broke his left leg in a fall on a farm near Malta this morning. He was transported to Fred Hueber's residence on South Fourth Street for treatment.
The Armory theatre presents a four act vaudeville bill headlined by Gypsy Revue with a final novelty act Alone. Audiences can expect entertaining performances and the included pictures. Shows run continuously from 7:15 to 9:45 PM.

At press time the score in a baseball game between Normal and PMI stood 7 to 6 with Normal at bat in the sixth inning and one out. It was a well contested game with a large crowd, after a 5 to 5 tie through five innings.
DeKalb Chapter of the Masonic order held a sepen g meeting last night to confer the Royale Arch degree on three candidates. After the ceremony a light lunch was served and attendees reported an enjoyable time. Monday night the blue lodge will hold a special meeting with some new candidates to receive the third degree work.
James Keene and David J. Haines, private detectives from Montreal, were held on suspicion of complicity in the theft of five million dollars worth of Liberty boats and other securities from Well Street firms months earlier. An offer listed a seven room Pine Street cottage with bath, gas, city water, and good basement at two thousand five hundred dollars via Talbot's Insurance Agency.
Official figures received by the Secretary of State show Governor Frank O. Lowden defeating Major General Leonard Wood by 65,551 in the recent Hindii primary. Republican totals include Lowden 17,730, Wood 132,522, Johnson 56,242, Hanwar 974, Thompson 685, with 1,169 scattering.
