Rudolph to Expand Soon

M Rudolph and Company plans a 5000 square foot expansion this spring to its DeKalb plant. Jack Rudolph announced the project as the firm seeks industrial zoning, after a council petition to reclassify land was referred to the ordinance committee. The firm, founded in 1923 after moving from Chicago, makes rain coats for all ages with products sold to jobbers and department stores nationwide.

Maple Park Holds Narrow Lead at Half in District Tournament

Maple Park trailed by three at halftime, 18 to 13, as Snyder scored four baskets and a free throw to lead Maple Park. Woklund answered for Steward with four baskets and two free throws, keeping the game tight after a strong second quarter rally.

State Patrol Officers Ride To Springfield For Uniform Tryon

State Patrol officers va N Larson and J L Elmendorf left this morning for Springfield after receiving orders yesterday to travel to the state capital. They planned to return to DeKalb on Friday. The trip was made in a new Ford coupe and they expected to be issued their new uniforms while in Springfield.

Teams Here For Praze Tourney Are Welcomed

DeKalb today hosted several high school basketball teams for the annual district tournament at the high school. Businesses displayed Welcome to DeKalb signs and some stores offered special welcomes with window decorations and tournament score information.

Power Man Promoted at Illinois Power Co

James Underdown, a DeKalb native, has been moved up to stock salesman at Illinois Power Co. replacing Frank Beyer of Peoria, who vacated the post after a several week stay. Beyer succeeded Robert Hayes of Sycamore, moved during a merger-driven transfer to Michigan, with Hayes having held the DeKalb role for years.

Chicago gang wars claim two more victims in street killings

Chicago reports two more gangland deaths amid ongoing violence since the 1929 St Valentine massacre. John Oberta, famed "Dingbat," and his bodyguard were killed after being kidnaped near Chicago Ridge. Funeral Services for Judge Jacob H. Hopkins

Funeral services were held for Chicago Superior Judge Jacob H. Hopkins yesterday in the Bradt home on South Fourth street with about 200 attendees from Chicago’s civic and legal circles. The services were private, Rev. J. C. Spencer presiding, burial in Fairview cemetery. The train carrying Hopkins’ remains arrived at 12:30 and returned to Chicago after the rites. Chicago courts paused in tribute. A delegation from the Chicago Bar Association and Chicago Elks attended, with a large honorary committee listed.

Death of Mrs Goodrich in Rockford

Word of the death of Mrs Frank Soodrich age 58 former Cortland resident was received early today. She died last night at 12 30 at her Rockford home after a period of illness. Funeral services are expected Saturday afternoon at the Cortland Methodist church with burial in Mound Rest cemetery. Surviving are her husband two children by a former marriage and an adopted daughter Laura.

Winter Term Ends as Spring Quarter Starts at College

The State Teachers College announces the winter quarter ends at noon tomorrow and the spring quarter begins Monday of next week. Most students will go home tomorrow afternoon and not return until Monday evening or Tuesday morning. Teachers in training schools must return by Monday morning, while others have no work. Enrollment for the next quarter will occur Monday for students not presently attending.

Castle to Speak at Kiwanis Luncheon

Castle of Sandwich will address the Kiwanis club at the Monday noon meeting. Waite Embree announced the luncheon. Castle is county prosecutor and no topic is fixed yet. Axel Carlson hosts the event and will arrange the entertainment for next week’s gathering.

Salesman For Book Firm Is Given The Air

A book company salesman was ordered out of town by Police Chief C. S. Rowe after he frightened two office workers with remarks about communism and threats to kill prominent figures including Melon and Hoover. Police said he also was pressuring teachers to buy his books in recent days.

Tirpitz Dies at Ebenhausen Near Berlin

Berlin reports Alfred von Tirpitz former lord high admiral of the German fleet died today at Ebenhausen near Berlin at 2 30 am from heart disease. He would have been 81 on March 11 after a sanitarium rest since mid last month following bronchitis. As father of the prewar navy he pushed naval buildup and propaganda shaping German sea power through 1901 to 1917, remaining a close ally of the Kaiser at the outbreak of World War I.
