A nearly five to one vote yesterday approved bonds for a new city hospital. The high margin signals strong support for expanding local medical facilities and financing the project through municipal bonds.
DeKalb voters approve a hospital bond by about five to one in a special election, with broad turnout across all five wards. Plans show a three story hospital with basement, operatory rooms, sun parlors, and extensive equipment, to be built on the current site with bids soon.
Washington June 30 Senator Warren G. Harding plans to reply to Homer S. Cummings keynote at the Democratic convention in his acceptance speech next month. Harding read the Democratic broadside today but declined to comment. He is back on the job after a vacation in New Jersey.
Lt. Stanley M. Am commanding the 95th aero pursuit unit at Kelly field is held by Mexican authorities at Matamora across the Rio Grande from Brownsville. Ames was forced to land after fuel exhaustion. landing was safe. Brownsville army officials are negotiating for his release.

The special grand jury in Philadelphia on June 30 returned eight indictments in the Grover Cleveland Bergdoll escape case. Named defendants include Bergdoll, his brother Erwin, Charles A. Braun who changed his name, Emma C. Bergdoll, James G. Romig, Eugene Stretcher, Alfred H. Mitchell, and Harry Shuh.
United Press reports American representatives will attend the Spa conference to seek resolution on disarmament reparation and economic questions. Premier Lloyd George and Millerand reportedly agree on German proposals, while Italian and Russian positions remain uncertain. Decisions at Spa are to proceed independently of U S approval with unofficial American input.
Polish representatives appointed Sir Evie Drummond to press League of Nations for war termination with Soviet Russia. They warned of international and external dangers if action delays. The League plans to address the Aland question with a tentative settlement. Sweden and Finland may accept the council decision.

Officer Schultz of Nevada Iowa detained Olly Smith overnight after arrest for desertion of his wife and children. Smith was captured in Nevada and slated for transfer to Beloit Wisconsin where the wife and children await him. News noted the pursuit across the region and expected transfer later that day.
