Former De Kalb County Lad Dies in France
Miss Josephine Poirel of Algin, formerly Sandwich, Illinois, received word that her brother, Lieut. John Poirel, was killed in action with American forces in France. A graduate of Fort Sheridan officers training, he rose to second lieutenant and sailed with the first American troops to France. Poirel, whose parents hailed from Lorraine, was killed near the cemetery where relatives are buried. His body will be buried in the same cemetery. He leaves three brothers and one brother in law also serving in France. The news came from Rev. Fredericks of Batava, a family friend.
