Life Filled with Honor Bryan's rise and fall in 1896 1912
United Press recalls William Jennings Bryan as the era defining Democrat who rose to power at the 1896 Chicago convention over free silver and fell after the 1912 Baltimore convention shift toward Wilson. It notes his 18,000 mile campaign, McKinley’s victory by 271 to 176 electoral votes, Hanna's orchestration, and the era's harsh press view of Bryan as a radical torch bearer.
