Four year old Jack Hope escaped serious injury after touching a live main line in his South Third Street yard. The electric shock knocked him down but left only a small white mark on his hand. City power was shut briefly as repair crews fixed the broken line.
Milwaukee dispatch reports a postal delay record as two mail cards from Scott Brothers Co. show delivery times of eight to ten years for cards mailed within the city. The dated Chicago and New York cards illustrate extreme postal inefficiency observed in Milwaukee.
A nude woman's body was found in a trunk received at the American Express offices in New York City. Police link the remains to a shipment intended for James Douglass of New York, via A A Pieturn of Detroit. Homicide detectives pursue the case as a clear murder, though no suspect has been named.
Prohibition leaders named Aaron T. Watkins of Ohio as the party nominee after a second ballot at an MEA gathering in Lincoln Nebraska on July 23. William Jennings Bryan said he could not sever ties with the Democratic party. Leigh Colvin of New York was named vice presidential candidate.
DeKalb police investigate thefts at DeKalb Scrap Iron and Metal Company building where bundles of wool were stolen last night. Local resident Mike Maine reports ongoing break ins and police expect to find the culprits.

Walter Press reports in Chicago that the trial of William Bross Lloyd and nineteen comrades of the Communist Party on sedition charges continued with witnesses from Seattle. Viola Graham testified no violence or armed threats were seen during the general strike, while labor leaders Duncan and Were defended court rulings and questioned. Swanson, a former Spokane official, described orderly conditions and normal food supplies during the strike, as the defense pressed questions on alleged plots and loyalties.
DeKalb will host an open air gathering where all Small Smith state and U S Senate candidates, including Len Small for governor Frank L Smith for senator W H H Reid for secretary of state and Dick Barr for attorney general, will speak. Aboard the United States Des troyer Goldsborough July 24 Resolute tied the series 2 2 with Shamrock IV after winning the fourth race. Winds held 18 knots with a squall. United Press from London reports Britain's reply to the Moscow government on July 12 was described as very short and courteous almost cordial by the Daily Herald. The note was addressed to the Soviet government and signaled Poles should liaise with the Soviets for an armistice. Britain suggested the proposed peace conference need not be held in London.
