Senator Harding fights to win women voters as Vermont governor stands firm against suffrage bills. He releases suffrage records to blunt militant protests planned for July 22. Republicans abandon hope of a sixth ratification state while Harding urges restraint toward extreme suffragists.
Publishers and editors from across the state gathered in Springfield for the Illinois Press Association opening session. Talk covered newsprint costs, advertising laws, and related topics with speakers Cortland Smith of the American Press Association Walter Williams dean of Missouri journalism and Jason Rogers of the New York Globe. Officer elections are set for tomorrow evening and a banquet will close the meeting with 44 former residents invited.
Buenos Aires reports Bolivian minister Don Lsnice Calderon, long a Washington diplomat, said Peru orchestrated and promoted the revolution that toppled President Guittedex Herrerra. He claimed all involved backed honoring the Peru Bolivia treaty ending the 1879 war. Leaders reportedly kept contact with Peru.
United Press reports July 15 that documents titled the Mow cow manifesto, alleged to be endorsed by William Bross Lloyd and other Communist Labor party members, were offered as crucial evidence in their espionage case. Police testimony described the raid on Communist headquarters and the copy’s seizure as admissible over objections.
The Ogle County Fair in Oregon runs September 7 8 9 10 with high class horse races free vaudeville acts daily and displays of beef dairy cattle horses livestock farm products fancy work and machinery. It has long drawn crowds from Northern Illinois and promises an especially popular program this year.
Two couples received marriage licenses in the past week. Staley H Kiester 21 from Garden Prairie and Mina J Wield 19 from Belvidere. Paul E Harrison 23 from De Kalb and Helen M Wiant 21 from West Chicago are the other couple.
The Normal school summer session is over half completed with 46 expected graduates this fall. Six students will continue this summer with one or two studies before entering full courses. This year’s summer session is among the largest the school has seen, and autumn enrollment is expected to be high as weather remains cold with little temperature change.

Last evening a collision on the street near Lincoln Highway involved a McGirr car going north and a White car from the west. Both vehicles were speeding within limit and the near miss could have been serious. No injuries reported. only broken fenders.

L. D. Marshall of De Kalb reports his daytime shopping trip in Chicago ended with a theft. While his wife and family waited in the auto after a noon meal at Marshall Field, all packages were stolen. Police have no trace of the thieves.

United Press reports a Dublin post office raid by armed men seizing government mail followed by clashes with police in Fornes County Limerick. Military seized 580 rounds of ammunition at Bunlagty Castle, and a railway strike grows as workers refuse munitions runs. In Clones County Monaghan five railway men were kidnapped by armed men amid tensions over ammo shipments.
Tonight’s band concert at the local park draws a large crowd including many out of town visitors. The program features Losey Overture Orpheus Offbach Waltz and selections from Verdi Morse and Bernard Whitmark with patriotic tunes and popular marches. Weather is expected to be pleasant for the outdoor event.
A delicate no wiring clock was installed in the First National Bank window this morning. Its mechanism remains unseen and its operation a mystery as curious onlookers crowd the display to see the timekeeper in action.
Whiteside county's sole candidate for the Illinois lower house is in DeKalb to inspect possibilities and gauge support. He carries a strong local reputation and is well regarded in his home community.
Reports from Mexico City dated July 15 say Pablo Gonzales, former presidential candidate, rebelled against the Obregon government. General Jrini Villareal led an uprising at Monterey but was defeated. Gonzales followers moved north and south, seizing rail lines Monterrey to Laredo and Monterey to Tampico. Advices say the federal garrison with Yaqui and Fiscal guards held, while General Ortega pledged to resist.
A Moscow dispatch quotes the government newspaper Proyda stating the Soviet government will reject the armistice proposal and will not halt Red Army advances until a Bolshevik victory is secured. The report cites the July 15 date and reflects the stance of the Soviet leadership.
United Press reports the Shamrock and Resolute racing near Shrewsbury Buoy with Resolute leading early before a gear failure sidelined the American yacht. The Shamrock pressed on toward the six hour limit as Lipton notes no victory claim if an accident forced a finish.
