Nellie Van Stone seventeen of Rockford end ed her life after a daytime quarrel with Jack Hestilow of Camp Grant. He said she threatened poison and left her to read then take strychnine. Coroner Olson ordered arrests of Hestilow and another soldier as the inquest looms.

Funeral for Gabriel Snyder Held in Maple Park
Funeral services for Gabriel Snyder who died at his Maple Park home from a stroke will be Wednesday at 2 PM from the Maple Park residence. Aurora Post No 21 of the G A R and Veterans of the World War will conduct with Snyder a Civil War veteran who served in the 156th Illinois Infantry. He was born June 22 1846 in Schuylkill County Pennsylvania and moved to Illinois as a child. He spent time in Aurora Hinckley and around Maple Park and was long a member of the G A R. He married Angelina Shoop September 2 1867. she died eleven days earlier. He leaves seven living children Harvey Wynn Albert Pearl Benjamin Frank and Ruby with relatives in DeKalb Maple Park Oakland Beav er Crossing and Mapl Park. Two brothers Joseph and William and two sisters Marie Wehr and Elizabeth Snyder survive. DeKalb residents plan to attend.

Rockford Illinois July 10 Judge F E Carpenter in the circuit court ruled that residences of persons engaged in religious work are not exempt from taxation. The case involved a request to relieve Poor Clares from paying taxes on their home. Bishop P J Muldoon argued the residence was a church order and should not be assessed. The court found no tax exemption, noting a prior Supreme Court ruling from DeKalb county that all structures must pay tax except places actually used as a place of worship.
