DeKalb physicians and an out of town surgeon consult over Eva Balen a 16 year old of Market Street who suddenly became fully paralyzed while dusting a chair. Doctors consider infantile paralysis with spine hemorrhage as leading theories while a State Board of Health exam is requested to aid diagnosis.
Chicago police expanded the hunt for missing payroll shipments from Chicago banks to Calumet factories after a Saturday Grand Trunk mail train robbery. Five men were in custody as authorities pressed for the remaining loot, with confessions from Charlies Limpy Cleaver and William Donovan helping to outline the plot. Fred Litzinger was sought as an alleged participant.
Reports from the ish Mission church note well attended gatherings led by Pastor Johnson, a former attorney from Chicago, with Rev A G Eklund assisting. Each succursive meeting draws larger attendance, and supporters believe his sermons strengthen church membership growth.

State highway department officials will open bids tomorrow in Springfield for about 125 miles of new pavement. Nearly 19 miles cover Route 70 in Lee and LaSalle counties, with additional bids for the Sycamore St Charles road to be Route 64 and for the Meridian highway. Contracts are expected to be let soon so paving can start early in spring.
Mrs Fred Vanstone of the Arlington hotel has not been well for some time. She was taken to St Mary's hospital where doctors report a serious operation planned for tomorrow morning. The DeKalb resident's health has been such that the operation is seen as the only relief.
Partly cloudy conditions prevail with warmer trends in the extreme south portion tonight. A cooler, but not severe, day is expected for north and central portions on Wednesday as temperatures dip.

Persistent rumors confirm land owners who objected to the state price for right of way on Route 64 between St Charles and Sycamore have agreed to accept the original offer. He asserted the clause recognizing it should not affect regional treaties and stressed its historical role as U.S. policy, not regional agreement.

March 7 was set aside for citizens to seek divine guidance in selecting candidates for the April primaries. The call cites ballot box violations, bombs, graft, vice dens, and liquor outlets, with negligent officials. No candidates named.
The afternoon high reached 45 degrees with a forecast near 50 as spring-like warmth settles in. Dirt county highways remain badly thawed and travel by wagon or horse becomes common. A 24 degree low followed yesterday’s 44 degree peak, signaling a warming trend.
Miss Sadie Holland files a $200,000 damage suit against plastic surgeon Dr Henry J Schireson after both legs were amputated following an operation to straighten bowed legs. She had the procedure at a hospital, later moved to another hospital, where doctors said gangrene developed. The doctor denies performing the straightening operation.
President Coolidge believes the modified naval construction program is moderate and unlikely to alarm other nations. He is said to think no further sea armament steps can be agreed among the three leading powers until 1931 when a special conference under the Washington treaty is due.

Chair man Deets Pickett opened the dry plank conference in Washington urging explicit anti drink planks in party platforms. About 400 temperance leaders from 32 organizations urged defeating pledges or candidates who dodge the issue while warning against wet or dodging candidates like Smith. Rev. O R Miller of Albany warned that Smith would not be acceptable to the dry cause.
Francesco Caruso, who escaped the electric chair, was sentenced in Brooklyn to 10 to 20 years for killing Dr. Casper Pendola. The illiterate Italian laborer acted after blaming the doctor for his son Joseph’s death from diphtheria. appeals and prominent defense influenced a manslaughter plea at a later trial.
The United States Navy airship Los Angeles, after a 39 hour journey from the U.S. to the Canal Zone, prepared to fly to Guantanamo Cuba to join the tender Patoka. It refueled and circled Panama City before departing at around 10 30 a. m. A crowd watched as Commander Rosendahl led the crew from France field.
In Los Angeles on February 28 the Hickman hunt for Ivy Thoms murder ends may reach a jury today. Hunt undergoes state drugs exam and both sides close. Hickman and Cantillon say they will offer no evidence for not guilty and will reserve evidence for phase two. If convicted the case may return to the same jury for the insanity plea.
Melbourne Feb 28 A search continues for the body of Harry Brooks, believed to have piloted a Ford aircraft that dived into the sea near here last Saturday. Cushions and a thermos bottle washed ashore today revived hope, but high tide today may end the search and diminish recovery chances.
City officials from Rochelle and surrounding communities united to oppose a proposed DeKalb Ogle Telephone rate hike filed with the Illinois Commerce Commission. Hearings set for March 1 in Chicago with local legal representation. further sessions likely in DeKalb or Ogle counties. The schedule shows planned increases from existing rates across business and residential lines, with rural rates also rising.
Two members of the Jackson family of Haish Boulevard are hospitalized with a serious bout of influenza. Mrs. Jackson, admitted last Saturday evening, is much improved with fever reduced and expects to return home in a week or ten days. Evelyn, the youngest daughter, was admitted last night and is also improving with a possible home return at the end of the week. Pneumonia was feared in both cases.
Kokomo Indiana February 28 ready to tell of amazing intrigue. Former Governor Warren T McCray was not heard by Hayward county grand jury investigating irregularities at American Trust Company due to routine business. Prosecutor Homer R Miller denied reports that McCray would testify today and said they might be heard later in the week.
Two children, Pearl Murray 15 and Omer Murray 9, were seriously injured when a freight train collision occurred near Rochester Indiana on February 33. Pearl was cut on the head with possible internal injuries while Omer sustained wounds and could not explain how the accident happened.
Hoopeston Illinois February 28 police requested to detail an officer for protection at the Nazarene church. No arrests reported as yet.
