Donovan declines cabinet post and cabinet at Hoover era
Washington February 27 William J Donovan assistant attorney general declined an offer to be secretary of war in the Hoover administration in a talk with the president elect at his eighth street home. He will retire to private law practice after March. Donovan had not sought a cabinet post but held that if one were considered it should be attorney general. William D Mitchell accepted the attorney generalship, from Minnesota, previously solicitor general in the Coolidge administration. Hoover aims to complete the cabinet within 24 to 36 hours with speculation about agriculture led by Dante Pierce. Mitchell’s acceptance leaves six posts filled: state secretary Henry L Stimson treasury Andrew W Mellon interior Ray Lyman Wilbur navy Charles Frances Adams and postmaster general Walter F Brown. Hoover disputed Mitchell being a Democrat noting his support for Republicans over the years. Postmaster General New retires March 4 and had luncheon today.

French Flyers Escape Injury in Burma Plane Crash
Lieut. Commander Joseph LeBrix and Antoine Paillard were unhurt when their plane from Istres France crashed at Thein zeik 120 miles east of Rangoon Burma. The mail cargo was saved despite the wreck. They had begun Feb 19 aiming for Saigon with several stops. Capt. Dieudonne Costes, same transatlantic flyer, also began Feb 19 for Hanoi but crashed into a telephone pole shortly after departure.
