Malta Woman Dies Today at Lincoln Hospital Rochelle

Mrs. John Dewey a 68 year old Malta resident formerly from DeKalb died at Lincoln hospital Rochelle after a major operation. She was born near Kaneville and left seven children and two sisters. Funeral arrangements will be announced tomorrow.

Daugherty Seeks Camp Grant Land for Federal Prison Training

Attorney General Daugherty announced he would ask the War Department to turn over part of Camp Grant land to the Department of Justice for an industrial training school for first offenders among federal prisoners. He argues first offenders should not be sent to penitentiaries where hardened criminals leave a lasting mark.

Last day for filing petitions for city alderman primaries

Today is the final filing day for petitions by aspirants to city alderman seats in next month’s primary. Many petitions were expected this afternoon and some have already reached the city clerk. Early indications suggest little chance of contest in ward races, though interest may rise in the general election.

Revenue Collector Explains Gross Income Clause

The collector of international revenue, John C. Cannon of the first district of Thaois, clarifies section 223 of the 1921 Revenue Act. Any individual with gross income of 5000 or more in 1921 must file a return, regardless of net income.
