Winter does not hinder contractors in modern build work

Despite cold weather a present day construction boom continues with cement pouring and flame heated mixing in basements and open bowls. Hunts build home on north side progresses despite occasional lay-offs while Sycamore church remodels into a community center and Leslie store work nears start. Contractors say heated cement performs as well as summer pours and withstands winter conditions.

Air transport talks at Del Rio Chamber meeting

Secretary Olwin reports a National Air Transport communication on air mail express and passenger service. A Chamber committee eyed an air field for Del Rio and possible coast to coast routes. Overnight Chicago to Dallas air mail with links to Houston Galveston and San Antonio brings the Southwest closer to Chicago. Passenger rates listed from Chicago to Mo line 25 dollars to St Joseph 62.50 to Kansas City 62.50. Page 2 continues.

Izaak Walton League State Meet Held in Aurora

The sixth annual Izaak Walton League state convention will gather in Aurora Kane County February 21 22 and 23 with about three hundred delegates from every Illinois chapter. Notables including Judge J M Dickenson Fred Peet Thomas Amrose and Dr Preston will attend as the league outlines new conservation measures. The Aurora Elks home will house events and a Washington birthday banquet is planned with speakers Judge Dickenson Senator Harold Cessinger Axel Christensen and Paul Kuhn headlining.

Water Source Described in State Report

Urbana, Feb 20. The state geological survey will issue a report by F T Thwaites on Stratigraphy and geological structure of northern Illinois with special reference to underground water supplies. It details rock layers pierced by deep drilling, includes a Dresbach sandstone based structure map, and logs of wells with a correlative table of geologic names in Illinois and adjacent states. The study covers outcrops in Wisconsin and extends to Kankakee, Streator, Galva and Aledo.

Scouts Show Interest in Pool Property Clean Up

During a DeKalb Boy Scout demonstration two troops cleaned the old pool site on South Malta Road spending hours tidying the tract and removing years of rubbish. Harold Cates of the Izaak Walton movement praised the Scouts and indicated growing local interest in the pool proposal.

Surveying on North Road Delayed by Local Dispute

Surveyors on route 721 west of Genoa toward the Meridian highway were ordered to stop and return to the Elgin district office. Unclear trouble centers on Kirk land opposing a survey north of the tracks in the town, with political disagreements contributing. Officials warn plans must reach the state office by March 1 for possible this year action.

Roosevelt Road Widening Gains Official Support

After a year of community agitation, Roosevelt road in Chicago and surrounding counties is set to widen from 66 to 100 feet west from Crawford Avenue to Desplaines Avenue with a 40 foot pavement east to near the county line. Petitions will be filed with the local improvements board soon, total frontage 6,315 feet, with 2,526 feet already secured. Large holdings by utility and railroad interests may not object.
