Ottawa Illinois February 17 jurors in the Henry A Hill murder case were dismissed after nearly 60 hours of deliberation failing to reach a verdict they had been in session since December 27 with the trial noted as one of Illinois longest murder cases. The defendant Miss Alice Sawyer testified he was with her during the alleged murder period. The State's attorney announced a retrial would be requested.

Manhunt for Two Escaped Convicts In Deputy Sheriffs’ Murders
Lafayette Indiana February 17 A manhunt rivaling Chicago’s sheik bandit chase spreads across the Midwest for two escaped convicts linked to the killings of deputy sheriffs Wallace McClure and John P Grove. The deputies and their prisoners Samuel Baxter and John Burns vanished February 7 after leaving Lafayette handcuffed in the rear of a car. Deputies later found the car near Decatur Illinois, its windshield shot out. The bodies of the two officers were found near Covington Indiana by farmer Charles Abdul, the coroner noting heavy decomposition and indicating both men were shot. Authorities had believed the four disappeared with no trace for days despite large search efforts.
