DeKalb merchants approve monthly Golden Rule sales starting February 29. The Chronicle will print sales bulletins and distribute to about 10 000 homes, about 6000 extras beyond regular subscribers, via first class mail to boost local trading area reach.
Col Charles A Lindbergh says he plans a homecoming flight over St Louis today and a future run over his old air mail route to Chicago. He will remain as advisor to aviation promotion groups and may donate the Spirit of St Louis to the Smithsonian. He noted the Havana to St Louis leg was rough at times, with engine hiccups during fuel switch but the aircraft remains in good condition.
Senate Teapot Dome committee will summon party leaders to explain how the 1920 presidential campaign deficit was reduced by 400000 dollars by 1921. Chairman Nye noted no public record of the sources and recalled Harry F. Sinclair testified in 1923 about contributions in 1922 to both parties.
Railway crews install three light signals on a tower east of Seventh Street to replace the old semaphore system. Signals show red for stop yellow for caution and green for proceed with no obstruction. Superintendent E V Chappel and signal foreman A J Pye oversee the project with nearby crews observing operations and maintenance plans.
Decatur police believe Indiana fugitives John Burns and Samuel Easter are in or near Decatur after reports of their capture proved false. Deputies Wallace McClure and J F Grove pursued them from Yette Indiana. A bullet riddled car was abandoned near town and the foster mother of the pair reported they stayed briefly at her home last Tuesday. Authorities have questioned several suspects and circulated fingerprints and descriptions to nearby cities.

William Edward Hickman was sentenced to death for the murder of 12 year old Marion Parker in Los Angeles. The judge overruled defense motions for a new trial and also sentenced Hickman to prison for the kidnapping.
In Indianapolis, former Klan leader A R 1 D. C. Stephenson seeks to answer questions on his influence with Governor Ed Jackson. Judge McCabe overruled defense objections and allowed Stephenson to testify if he chooses, amid bribery conspiracy charges against Jackson. Fred Robinson testified about a $10,000 bribe offer to McCray as part of the probe.

Twenty seven passengers on a Dixon to Chicago chartered Northern Illinois Service bus were slightly bruised and cut when the vehicle tipped into soft mud west of Creston on the Lincoln Highway at about 7:45 AM. The driver, identity withheld, stopped the bus to avoid a rollover. Passengers escaped through broken windows as another bus arrived to continue the trip.
Senators testifying in the Sinclair Burns contempt trial affirmed the detective William J. Burns has a good reputation for honesty and integrity. James E. Watson George H. Moses and Samuel F. Shortridge said they were personal friends of Burns and spoke to his character.
Sutton Courtney England February 14 Relatives at the bedside of the Earl of Oxford and Asquith today abandoned hope for his recovery. The former prime minister was weaker and near death after several days of illness at Sutton Court suffering pharyngitis with signs of bronchitis.
Louis Hiner and Mrs. Louisa Wedeburg of this city were summoned to Iowa Falls yesterday after noon by the death of their cousin Miss Anna Bock a former resident of DeKalb She died after a hospital stay following a serious illness and funeral services were planned for tomorrow with many local residents remembering her.
George Schiffer of the Northern Illinois Finance company has been circulating a petition for nomination as sheriff of De Kalb county for the April primaries. Reports say Schiffer presented the petition yesterday morning in a business house on Main Street where it was quickly signed and sent forward.
Walter Lloyd a Malta drayman and mail carrier died instantly when struck by an eastbound passenger train at the Main Street crossing about 6 30 this morning. His body lay near the crossing and investigators noted extensive injuries. Lloyd long resided near Malta and operated a dray and transfer business with his black horse. The accident prompted railway officials to inspect the scene while post office staff recovered scattered mail sacks.
Springfield and Chicago reports state Supreme Court Justice Floyd E Thompson of Rock Island announced his candidacy for governor on the Democratic ticket. Chicago leaders backed Thompson over Anton J Cermak, with Cook county committee voting 32 to 10 in his favor amid talks of shifting Cermak to the Senate bid.
Mrs Ivan Grimm, hospitalized at St Wary s for two to three weeks with a badly infected finger, left Fisk Avenue hospital early this week to return to her Minckley home after successful treatment.
The installation of Rt. Rev. Edward Francis Hoban as bishop of Rockford is expected the first week in May at St. James Pro-Cathedral. Pope Pius XI confirmed the appointment. Cardinal Mundelein will preside at the installation and Hoban’s background includes leadership in the Eucharistic Congress and the Holy Name Society.
