Professor Eckhardt, renowned soil engineer, will discuss war garden methods at 7:30 p.m. Sunday at the Methodist church. The Chronicle sponsors a war garden column and invites DeKalb residents to contribute questions, plans, and slogans to boost food production for the war effort.
The four minute men urge citizens this week to loan Petaete and similar glasses to aid the United States Navy. An urgent appeal from the National Defense sent war the appeal asks every man to lend the instruments. Bring or mail glasses to the Commercial Club offices or to Frank B Roosevelt in Washington DC.
The Normal basketball team will journey to Wheaton College for a Friday night matchup. Local observers believe Wheaton may be stronger, while Normal aims to return with a win and claim top position in the standings.
Pred Wice of towa has been upending some time here with friends and expects to be called into service daily. He anticipates location at the Great Lakes Naval station. Mr. Wire has been called three times and the calls were postponed by the service. He enlisted over three months ago.
Tomorrow afternoon at 2500 the Bier offers the notable motion picture The Manor System starring George Walsh Gladys Trockwell and Miriam Cooper. Due to strong public interest a large crowd is expected. matinee priced at 10 cents.

The Standard Oil company purchased the corner lot at Lincoln and Meridian highways in Rochelle from Mrs Carrie Stocking for £6 200 000. Possession will be given April 15 after the building is removed. The company plans a service station similar to others along the Lincoln Highway. The Register and Arthur Wilcox will need new quarters.

Empey, a frontline veteran, recounts wounded seven times and captured Prussian forces while detailing life in No Man’s Land and gas attacks. Ash Wednesday services were held yesterday at St Marys church marking the start of Lent. Special services will be held through the Lenten season at the city churches.

The body of Lloyd Schwab, 35, rural route mail carrier from Har mon post office, was found about 9 30 this morning after a 48 hour search. His horse and cart were recovered yesterday near a culvert where they disappeared into the swollen creek. Rescue workers used a raft and drag hooks to locate the remains as winded relief for the family and community of Dixon and Sterling.
Deputy internal revenue collector George L. Burke will return with George T. Carney for four days to help residents file income tax returns.
