Veteran air mail flyer Rube Wagner and a mechanic passenger landed under severe weather at McGirr emergency field shortly before 3:00 am after a two hour battle with low fog and snow. They stayed until 6:10 am when conditions cleared for the Chicago trip. The incident follows a separate report of another Boeing mail flight from Omaha to Chicago that struck trouble near Council Bluffs after engine failure. Wagner resumed eastward once conditions improved, but encountered heavy snow again near Waterman before circling back to McGirr.
