Roumania ignores Germany's 24 hour peace ultimatum and vows to survive with the Allies. Rome reports Pope Benedict welcomes Wilson's address to the enemy and presses central powers for an honest, unselfish response.
An unusually interesting meeting of the Woodmen of the World will be held tonight at the lodge hall. Members will conduct regular business then enjoy a smoker with a dramatic reading by Mr. Peterson. Officers have prepared plans, and many members are expected to attend.
Clifford Parker, former member of Company A 129th Infantry, returned home Monday night after honorable discharge for physical disability. The DeKalb youth has suffered from rheumatism and was deemed unfit for trench and army duties. He notes the other DeKalb soldiers at the Texas camp are in good health.
Announcement that the Treble Clef will travel to Rockford to perform for Camp Grant Sammie Saturday. The group is specially trained and plans a fine program for the soldiers. Prof A Nel Annas, Miss Vera Winwall and Miss Evelyn Merrit accompany them.
The Big Cofey Farm Sale, postponed from yesterday, now set for Monday at 10 a.m. includes nine horses, thirty three Holsteins, twelve brood stock, farm machinery and implements, ten tons of lower May, and all house furnishings. The Cofey Farm is two miles south and one mile west of Maple Park, with D. J. O'Brien directing the sale.
Roy Newhall once shot and then in serious condition improves slightly each day. His physician and nurses report renewed encouragement about his health progression.
The Normal school held a centennial program with the United States flag and service flag unfurled, honoring Abraham Lincoln. Over 250 children performed, Dr. John W. Cook gave the opening roll call, and Dr. F W Shepardson spoke on how Lincoln’s ideas shape today. The service flag with 67 stars was displayed beside the U S flag, and Illinois flag was shown for the first time. Future ceremonies are planned by centennial committee chair FE C Page.

Swiss neutrality is defended amid threats to independence and potential revolts spreading to Italy and France.
Bulletin reports Fuel Administrator Garfield revoked the Monday heatless holiday order in Washington D C. The notice states the policy is canceled and mentions ads indicating saleable items moving in wants ads.
Prof R E C Page delivered an illuminating review of Lincoln at the Methodist church last night using stereopticon views from the Pay collection. Those in attendance valued the free, dignified talk that elevated Lincoln to immortality and capped a three day celebration of notable merit.
Fire boys have rigged a wagon to respond to fire alarms while road conditions improve. The chief hopes the arrangement will last several days, allowing motor trucks to return to active service.
In Elgin a dispute over leadership at St Marys church ends with Father John J McCann defying Bishop Muldoons order to yield to Father Flynn. After a conference Flynn left. McCann remained and addressed parishioners on sacraments and calls. A Rockford hearing into the case was held with Father P J Weber on the inquiry committee.
An appeal from a DeKalb justice court case against Nick Stavakas on a complaint by George Garbos for threatening to kill is filed in circuit court. Defendant held under $200 bond to keep the peace. Cognovit actions follow on notes from Ot to Johnson and Otto Johnson totaling $187.65. A mortgage foreclosure suit is filed by George Loptien against Stephen Hollingsworth for $3 684 against Lot 23 in Grove’s addition Kirkland.
Rev J Wargelin of the Finnish Church notes a former Repub lic Mich member Svanta Nerila was aboard the Tuscania. The records do not say if he was drowned. Wargelin recalls him as a fine young man from a good Repub lic family.
A damage suit seeks $10,000 for the death of James H. Johnson of Creston Iowa in the Earlville wreck on September 16 1917. The case against the C B & Q railroad is filed at Geneva by Gordon A Ramsay administrator and represents Johnson’s mother and siblings. Attorney details include Leonard Mead William C Hartray and C Helmer Johnson. The wreck involved a freight train collision attributed to engineer C A Carlson of Galesburg. Carlson was treated in St Charles hospital Aurora and later dismissed from service.
A large water log floods the east city approaches near Johnson Greenhouses and the C M G viaduct. Aurora streetcars faced delays yesterday afternoon but eventually passed after several attempts. Crews are draining excess water to prevent service interruptions on the line.
Announcement states J B Lindstrom will open a store on the north side about the 25th this month, leasing the former Charles Anderberg location. He promises the same high quality goods and service at both stores.
Directors of the DeKalb Military band met last night choosing Charles J. Powell as manager and Prof. C. E. Toenniges as leader and instructor. Weekly rehearsals from seven to eight for beginners and eight to ten for regular members outlined. Plans include expanding the band and attracting new members for summer work. Mrs. Frank Sweet of Malta was visiting relatives.
Washington notes President Wilson urged Austria to sever ties with German militarists before any peace with the United States. He demanded democratic reforms in Germany and warned against armistices that leave the Junkers in power. The Austrian people were urged to break from Germany to ensure a lasting peace.
An official from the state food administration joins local restaurateurs grocers and bakers at City Hall this afternoon to discuss the recently issued regulations by Food Administrator Hoovy er. The gathering aims to resolve questions perplexing the local administrator.
Tracey Robertson a DeKalb boy at Jefferson Barracks contracted measles and is improving. He will be out of quarantine by week’s end. Bud and Burton Shoop of St. Louis, formerly of the city, visited bringing cats, and Robertson plans to visit them next Sunday in St. Louis.
The Wednesday night group meetings are set for Mrs. Reiminsnider at 1216 Pleasant Street Van Whitmore at 624 DeKalb Avenue and Frank Bambridge at 136 South Sixth Street.
Registration for German alien enemies must be completed by 8 pm unless extended. Chief of Police Riddell, chief registrar, initially set the closing date as last Saturday night but was told Saturday afternoon to extend until tonight. Locally, six registrants have been processed, exceeding the registrar’s estimate by one or two.
Dale Beale has accepted a position with the Black Cat Tile Company of Ohio and left yesterday for Cleveland where he will reside until Easter. Beale will hold a responsible post. Mrs. Beale remains at home here.

Medill McCormick will speak at the Sycamore Farmers Club annual banquet in the Methodist church this Friday February 15. A dinner for 500 guests is planned with music by the Sycamore High School orchestra and local performers. McCormick, Chicago Tribune publisher turned congressman, will address a patriotic audience. tickets cost 75 cents. Public invited. event includes cartoons by Henry Suppleman and a brief government taxi notice.
