Floyd Munson, already under parole, was arrested for allegedly committing a crime against nature involving a six year old boy. The boy was lured with candy and ice cream after dark, leading to Munson’s arrest and alleged confession. State’s Attorney Poust may move to revoke parole and return him to the institution.
Open house at the American Steel and Wire company good fellowship club rooms attracted many guests. Card games, checkers, bees and music by a quartet provided entertainment for hours. Lunch featured coffee doughnuts and sandwiches.
John Percy Garner, former De Kalb resident now in Chicago, had his picture featured with other good roads men in a Chicago Tribune Sunday edition. The photo accompanied the page ad for the Chicago body sponsoring the national good roads associations convention starting this week, with Garner serving as a chairman of a key committee.
Sparks from a burning chimney set fire to the roof of a house at 1014 State Street and a call was sent for the fire department. Very little work was necessary after arrival. one small extinguisher sufficed to squelch the blaze. Damage is reported slight.
Thomas Meighan stars in Civilian Clothes a lively comedy romance about a society girl who marries a soldier and discovers a hidden lover. Martha Mansfield leads with other features including The Gumps Topics of the Day and music by the Princess Trio and more tonight.
A Marquette Council Knights of Columbus meeting drew 150 to 175 DeKalb Aurora members. DeKalb Knights will travel to Chicago February 20 for the fourth degree at LaSalle hotel. attendees heard remarks from Judge Edward W. Mangan and others, with a banquet and social after. In Dublin, Sinn Fein offensive looms with battles leaving one child dead and several wounded as Britain faces pressure to declare martial law.
Dubuque police say a prominent Iowa Democrat was slain in a daytime attack carried out by a rejected suitor named George Falute who confessed. Mrs Daly and nurse Faye Thompson were also beaten with an iron bar and injured.
United Press reports Mt Lasen in western California erupted for about two hours starting at 6 a m on February 7, marking the second eruption in 24 hours. The activity was nonviolent, following a brief earlier episode the previous day at the K of C Hall event venue.
A coincidence places G. Clark and Melville Clark as presidents of Kiwanis clubs for the year. The DeKalb man serves as the first executive of the DeKalb club, while Melville Clark is named president in Syra. Both Claris are active Kiwanis members and the DeKalb man has attended many meetings where his nephew now presides.
A short item describes little Robert McCann son of Mr John McCann who was sick that week. When asked to get up for breakfast he asked his mother to bring it to bed with the remark that his daddy does. The boy has recovered from the slight cold that caused the illness.
Timothy Murphy known as Big Tim Murphy, a labor leader and politician, is reported as a prisoner in Chicago. He is wanted in connection with a Pullman mail robbery involving large sums, and authorities say he has surrendered to Chief Fitzmorris.
Chicago reports President Wilson will abstain from interference as the railroad owners and employees clash over wages and working rules before the United States Railroad Labor Board. The dispute centers on abrogation of shop rules and wage cuts, with a Thursday hearing anticipated. The Chicago Federation of Labor backs hour reductions to spread work among thousands, aiming to place men on production lines and reduce unemployment.
Champ Clark, Democratic leader in the House, rejects calls to reorganize the party. He allies with James M. Cox to oppose a move led by Thomas Love and Texas McAdoo to convene the Democratic national committee in St. Louis. Clark warns against fighting over the chairmanship at such an early time.
Members of the Blue Lodge will administer the first degree to several candidates this evening. Attendance is desired by the officers of the Masonic fraternity.
George Woodruff of Joliet and Charles Wilson of Chicago addressed 300 farmers at Elkshall urging down to earth spending on goods and labor. They warned prices may stay depressed for two to three years with little demand for livestock and widespread unemployment. The meeting also piloted a farmer wage planning survey based on 298 cards.
States Attorney Cassius Poust says Bert Hamilton seeks a pardon with the board of pardons and paroles. The Senate's attorney will object to release, but the board holds discretion. Hamilton has served about five years and the hearing is expected late in the month. attorneys have not been notified of the exact date.
General John J. Pershing responded to charges against the American Expeditionary Forces by stating that the achievements of the force speak for themselves. He sent a letter to Representative Mood of Virginia, replying to a request to appear and refute the committee’s criticisms. Pershing will travel with Brigadier General Dawes, who condemned the committee’s handling of the inquiry.
Concidine, night desk sergeant at the police station, is named custodian of the Memorial clock. Each Thursday the clock will be wound and set accurately. If the clock drifts, the night officer may handle both timekeeping and lighting after the dedication next Sunday.
The DeKalb Kiwanis club held its first formal meeting with Dean Clark of Chicago addressing members on club relations and road improvement. Anticipated projects include cement road upgrades near DeKalb and hard roads linking Malta to Shabbona, plus paving additions and new assessments pending court approval.
Earl Kessler, from the DeKalb County Sanitarium near DeKalb, reports a 20 pound weight gain and nearing discharge. He praises the county facility's location, surroundings, service, and modern medical care, noting his mother returns from Iowa to join him.
DeKalb County School Court unanimously grants transfer of Somonauk township territory from Sandwich to Somonauk Community High School district. LaSalle and Kendall counties had similar rulings. Sandwich district plans appeal. Sandwich tax rate this year is 21.97 per 100 valuation versus Somonauk rate of 0.74.
Word reached here that Bert Potter aged 56, a former county resident born near Waterman, died after eight months illness in Wichita Kansas. He leaves a wife and three children with numerous relatives in DeKalb and Waterman. A sister in Waterman is recovering from major surgery and has not been informed. Burial arrangements are not yet known.
Gilbert Blackman found an original small photograph of Abraham Lincoln in an old album. The image is a good likeness of the famed abolitionist and early friend of the slaves. The album also contains other small photographs of notable figures from earlier days.
A dog owned by the J. W. Concidine family was killed by a passing automobile, a note in the police book indicates. The children on South Earth street mourn the loss and the elderly man shares gloom over the incident.
United Press bulletin reports Bunyan a school teacher and five of his pupils killed when a can of nitroglycerine exploded at the cross roads school near Lawrenceville. One pupil is said to be dying.

Judge H W McEwen traveled to Spring Valley this morning at the invitation of Judge Hawthorn of the city court. Hawthorn is unable to preside and asked the local jurists to assist in his court duties.
Fourteen armed men abducted Mrs Anna King in White Plains New York at midnight in a gun battle during which one man was wounded. Miss King, a guest in the Albons home, was seized and believed taken to a Bronx hiding place. No trace of the kidnappers by noon.
Washington Feb 7 John Skelton Williams Comptroller of the Currency says middlemen profits in many cases are unwarranted and excusable, blocking consumer benefits from the current decline in raw material prices. The statement appears in his annual report.
