The Irish coast reports the Cunarder Tuscania sunk by a German submarine last Tuesday. The incident confirms losses among United States transports, raising alarms over sea travel safety during wartime.

Fire yesterday morning in Leslie’s building consumed all stock belonging to R N Leslie and damaged the adjoining apartments of Henry W Prentice Edward Johnson and Dr Lunn. Firemen used about 500000 gallons of water with eight streams kept for four hours. Steel company hose and pumps aided after a late call to supply extra hose and equipment.
The Sycamore Tribune reports a short circuit at the power house caused by melted icicles and moist wiring. Flames engulfed a room before being subdued, and an expert from DeKalb was delayed, delaying the paper’s publication.

Army officers stated two trains of soldiers left Camp Grant on December 18 and 19 for Camp MacArthur to join the transport Tuscania. It is unclear if they departed for France. John Skinner of Rockford says his son Henry Skinner, a sergeant in the radio corps, was aboard the Tuscania.

An exhibit of Logan pictures from the Fay collection will be displayed in the main building’s east corridor for several days. The observances honor John A. Logan's birthday on February ninth. The public is invited to attend.
Prof. W. G. Eckhardt will address the church on February 17 about war gardens and other timely American topics. The announcement notes the talk will be in the evening at the Methodist church, with Dr. Cook delivering a patriotic address the following Sunday night.
