Daniel Young aged about 70 died after a week long illness at the home of Mrs. Emil Lattin in Cortland township due to pneumonia. He was born January 10, 1842 on the family farm and was among Cortland’s oldest residents. He leaves siblings Pars, Albert Stewart, and John, with services held at Mrs. Lattin’s home and burial in Ohio Grove cemetery. The Young family is among Cortland's oldest.

George Dean 95, longtime DeKalb county resident, died Monday at his daughter’s Rockford home. Born January 27, 183? in Sullivan County New York, he served in the Civil War with the 120th New York volunteers, was captured by Stuart’s cavalry, and spent over a year in Confederate prisons including Andersonville. He later lived near Charter Grove and Sycamore before burial at Charter Grove.
DeKalb residents received word from Lieut Walter OBrien of Maple Park that he is currently in France with Company E of the 117th Infantry. He expects to sail home soon as the regiment prepares to move, possibly signaling a return to the United States.
Three bandits, one wounded, fled toward Chicago from Madison after a pistol duel with railroad detectives. Madison officials asked Chicago police to watch for the fugitives.

Paul Klemm and Frank J. Klemm sue to protect a 16 foot right of way easement across the east half of the southwest quarter of section 12 Afton township.
