A school theatre night unfolds as the W. A. A. of the State Teachers College plans a dramatic performance this evening on campus. The group invites students and faculty to attend the show featuring local talent and a light program to conclude the day.
The second annual vod-vil production by the W A A at the state teachers college will be staged in the college auditorium this evening. Miss Edith L. Bond directs the show with seven acts including Kalo ban and Batz Tulip Time The Bet Mother Goose and town people take-offs. Local DeKalb actresses Valene Badgley Elizabeth Hunt Annette Badgley and Caroline Countryman are featured with celebrities impersonations promised.
State men examined the Kishwaukee river water yesterday and collected samples for final inspection by department heads. Fishermen reported dead fish to state headquarters, and the Walton League of Sycamore also notified Springfield officials. Capital inspectors have yet to report results to Sycamore as they await further action.
Dr C E Smith, long in California visiting his brother Dr Ralph Smith and other DeKalb residents, was due back home today. It is his first vacation in years and he is sure to have stories from California to share.
John G. Lundberg, veteran merchant, walks the street as he recalls breaking a leg over a year ago. He blames damp weather for hindering recovery and, though under his doctor’s constant care, cannot seem to regain full health.
Washington February 2 Secretary of Labor Davis for the Loyal Order of Moose and a delegation for the Elks urged President Harding to convene an international conference on the drug menace. Davis presented a petition signed by 600000 Moose members. Also notice bake sale tonight at The Flower Store and Rebekah Bazaar and Dance events.
Washington reports a calmer Congress on funding the British debt as terms accepted by London gain understanding. Opposition remains in the senate and President Harding is expected to press for action next week with a letter urging prompt completion of remaining legislation including a ship subsidy bill deemed dead by its fees.
John H. Walker of the Illinois Federation of Labor says four major labor bills have been introduced with plans for early additional measures. An anti injunction bill led by Rep Frank F. McCarthy will be introduced once final draft is set. Companion bills for jury trials in contempt of court and other labor protections are due.
Commission er Harry Goodison of public improvements in the city has conferred with North Western railroad officials over water supply. The railroad hints at city keeping the big tanks at the coal chutes filled with water, with payment by the railroad if reasonable. A definite announcement likely soon.
Soldiers in olive drab stopped for dinner near Fourth street and Lincoln Highway causing minor stir. When asked who and where they were from a soldier said the group was headed back to Camp Grant, with no further details available.
Final returns from DeKalb County Tuberculosis Association indicate a successful Christmas Seals sale with funds sufficient to sustain rural public health nursing. Leaders credit township chairmen, volunteers, and Scouts for strong county efforts as 12 counties seek representation at the spring meeting. Dr J Stanley Brown will award the banner to the top thirty counties once all reports are in.
Frank, known in DeKalb county infirmary circles as a familiar town figure, arrived in town yesterday to visit old acquaintances. Near Fourth and Lincoln Highway he suddenly fell ill and was transported by ambulance to the county infirmary. Officials expect a swift recovery and his return in two to three weeks.
Word has reached here that Harry Ferguson has been sick for two or three days while in California. His condition is not serious, but his mother Mrs. Ferguson will likely remain there to care for him until he recovers.
Dr. J. Stanley Brown, president of the state teachers college, attends the annual meeting of the Schoolmasters club at Loomington. Announcement states Sunday night will feature Marion Wright Night at the First Baptist Church Artist�s Night service. About 30 DeKalb lodge members traveled to Rochelle last night to exemplify the third degree work and were guests of the Hickory Grove lodge. Deputy Grand Master Mischler of Mt. Mortis spoke, with S. A. Milligang of DeKalb and others from DeKalb on the speakers’ list. A banquet followed, praised for quality, and visitors were treated well by the Ogle county lodge as the gathering closed.
Tonight the Elks lead the Knights of Pythias by 76 points for first place while the Good Fellowship club trails the Odd Fellows by five for third. The final crib games feature Pythians at Elks, Good Fellowship with Kaysees, Odd Fellows with Vikings at Viking hall. The club tournament ends after tonight with a banquet for the three winners.
Last night the Elks supper drew a large crowd with nearly 300 members fed. Will Bristow chaired the event with James Scott Fred Johnson and C. D. Thornton at the serving table while Tom Kennedy escorted guests to basement tables. Roy Ferguson distributed cigars as Lou Clay oversaw food preparation.
