Tree falls kills a man in Mayfield township
Alfred Clarke a longtime Mayfield township farmer west of Sycamore was killed instantly when a tree he was cutting fell during a gusty wind. He was alone at the time and attempting to pull the tree in a chosen direction. An inquest was scheduled for that evening in Sycamore, with funeral set for Saturday at 1 30 at the Mayfield home. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery. Surviving relatives include his widow Ella Knipp Clarke two brothers and several children and grandchildren.
