The National Coal Association's books, representing major bituminous operators, were seized and summons issued to officers to testify. An official said the books were turned over on request. The inquiry continues a prior investigation halted in New York.
An elderly resident of the county, known to many De Kath people, died yesterday at his home after illness of several months. Funeral arrangements are pending and will be announced later.

W H Kelly longtime Maple Park resident died at his West Lincoln Highway home after a period of illness. Born June 14 1864 in Devonshire England he immigrated at age 21 and later moved to Maple Park where he farmed. Survived by wife four children and siblings in England. Funeral tomorrow with interment at Fairview cemetery.
Christmas programs in several churches drew large crowds yesterday with cantatas filling churches to capacity. The Baptist service featured Messish's Coming by the chorus with soloists Mrs Scott Peacock and Herbert Carlson and Marion Wright on piano. Additional performances by the Congregational choir and a fine Methodist afternoon program complemented the day with a violin solo by Dr Payne.
H. F. Richardson of Pleasant Street fell from his porch last Tuesday when a high wind knocked him off balance. He broke a wrist and sustained bruises but is now recovering and expected to be out soon. Friends feared injuries might be serious but he is doing nicely.
