Reports say heavy freight will ruin the pavement on South Fourth Street if kept on the work area. Oil trucks plowed through cinders yesterday, creating havoc while Fuller and Self continue tasks. officials urge delaying heavy loads a few days to allow cinders to set for automobile traffic.
A noon robbery at L. C. Schermerhorn’s DeKalb office netted $524.40 in cash and $245.45 in checks, with the safe left unlocked and a side window open. Police suspect local talent staged the theft, noting the big DeKalb Building & Loan check for $500 may have been cashed or kept for safekeeping.
A publication by The American Issue extols DeKalb County for a 100 percent conviction rate in recent prohibition enforcement, noting over 70 cases with convictions and nearly $10,000 collected for the county treasurer. The steel company announces a Christmas festival for employees and families on Thursday December 22 in the remodeled Fourth and Locust street building. Mrs. R. L. Anderson of Rochester Minnesota reports from there that Dr S L Anderson a well known DeKalb physician is improving and plans to return home for Christmas. He has been able to get about considerably in recent days and both him and his wife are encouraged by the progress. Local business circles report a management change at the Great American store in DeKalb. M. C. Kirk, in charge for several months, departs at the start of the year to start a new business in Baraboo, Wisconsin. He will be replaced by Mr. Morrissey, coming from Freeport.

In Waukon Iowa on December 14 Phrost 26 confessed to murdering Edna Magin a 22 year old country school teacher at her Dorch Mon afternoon schoolhouse. Gunda Martindale led grilling and helped secure the confession after a tense lynch mob formed outside the jail. The sheriff credited Mrs Martindale with outsmarting the mob by smuggling the suspect into custody through an indirect route.
Four women and two men were grilled by police as they probed an escape plan from Cook County jail in which Lucky O Connor vanished. Officers say the conspiracy used signals from a hotel near the jail to aid the escape and three suspects were briefly detained before release after questioning.
