War veteran Fred Collin dies after gas attack service
Fred Collin, DeKalb veteran, died at Speedway veteran's hospital Maywood after a lung infection linked to gas exposure in France. He will receive a military funeral with services at his uncle Ernest Collin's home and burial in Fairview cemetery. DeKalb American Legion post to handle interment. He served in Company H, 28th Infantry, enlisted 1918, overseas 1915, discharged 1919, later worked with a local contractor and on a farm before illness. He was born December 7 1888 in Sweden and came to the United States in 1909. He leaves three sisters Emmie Olga Gustave in Sweden and Hildur Johnson, plus an uncle Ernest Collin.
