Cotton Not Safe Crop for Illinois in 1911 Trials
The Illinois agricultural college reports cotton is not yet a safe crop for southern Illinois due to a short season and hazards. Field trials since 1911 show only one bale per acre at best, with poor to fair yields on most runs. Early frosts, poor drainage, and unsuitable varieties limit yield, though better drainage and level seeding may improve prospects in other areas.
