Reports indicate more than 100 families will relocate within a month as landlords push to end steam heat after June 1 and levy water taxes. Jacob Harsh notes many flats on North Street and DeKalb Avenue. tenants scramble to find new residences amid the upheaval.
Chairman Leslie announced after noon that the Third Liberty Loan total reached $240 000 with DeKalb township still one week to reach the $250 000 maximum. The working committee hopes to meet the goal this week.
The War Department released casualty lists totaling 156 names from General Pershing reports. Included are 18 killed in action, 13 dead of disease, 6 dead from wounds, 25 severely wounded, 87 slightly wounded, 4 missing, 2 dead from accident and 1 from other causes.

Tomorrow night at the Knights of Pythias hall an important Uniform Rank assembly meeting is called by the captain for eight o'clock. All members are urged to attend with their uniforms, as members have drilled well and mastered maneuvers and should not miss the session.

Lisbon says Major Sidonio Paes has been elected president of Portugal by direct vote. Paes previously led the cabinet and served as minister of war and foreign affairs under Bernardino Machado, succeeding him as president. The constitution limits the office to one term.
Arthur Guest son of Mr and Mrs A W Guest of Rochelle reports in a letter that after time at Fort Sam Houston Texas and the ordnance school he will be sent to the ordnance division headquarters at Camp Rariton Metuchen New Jersey for further duty.
New guidelines issued by the Illinois food administration outline sugar distribution through May 1. Wholesalers may ship up to 280 days of sugar to bakers and essential manufacturers, with 10 bags pre May 1, and consumers limited to five pounds in cities and ten in the country unless special canning provisions apply. The drive for manpower in World War I continues as the War Department warns that future needs depend on replacing units in France.
Two De Kalb county telephone office workers Oliver Vickery and Frank Booth have applied to the exemption board for war work in the signal corps. Louis Moulton of the fire station also applied for the same branch and was at Aurora Saturday for a medical exam.
