Prison Riot Quelled at State Penitentiary Amid Heavy Armament

Frank Benson Sweet born December 20 1857 died April 26 1930 in DeKalb. He spent most of his life in the area with Bradt and Shipman and local enterprises. He is survived by his mother, a son Judd M Sweet, and a son Lewis S Sweet with four grandsons in New Mexico. Funeral services were held at his Roosevelt Street home The Pines with burial in Evergreen cemetery.

One Hurt In Odd Mishap Involving Four Vehicles
Clarence Giltner of the Giltner garage on North Tenth street received a broken arm and cuts last night in a unusual mishap near the Andrew Shipman home on East Lincoln Highway. Three cars and a garage wrecker were involved. Giltner, the only seriously injured, was taken to Glidden Memorial hospital.

Burglars Hit Two Theaters In DeKalb and Fargo
Thieves broke into the DeKalb Egyptian and Fargo theaters last night stealing about $15 from Fargo’s box office and leaving over $1,000 untouched in DeKalb’s safe. The entry to the DeKalb building was through multiple doors while the Fargo damage was confined mainly to door breakage and a $15 cash drawer theft. Officer Maynard Ebbesen contacted police after a basement alarm, but no one was found.

Major Ley Dies After Homeward Flight From Battlefields
Horace V. Ley of the 115th engineers, a WWII hero, left San Francisco for a San Joaquin sanitarium with his wife and daughter. After five weeks of treatment he asked to return home to the Siskiyous to die. A harrowing Oakland to Yreka flight endured gales and rain, and two women with him urged the crew onward. He died in the Siskiyous four hours after landing.
