Fire department responded to four calls yesterday at the William Hiland home on Pearl Street. The chimney was burning out and occupants feared a fire, prompting a safety first call. Trucks arrived, the siren ended the alarm, and crews returned to station.
Earl Johnson has been notified to enter military service on Thursday. He works for the Wagon company. Mr and Mrs Johnson and Vera Kaiser have separated and plan to visit relatives in Nachusa before he travels to Dixon to receive orders, likely at Camp Grant. Washington April 22. Millions of bushels of Australian wheat will be poured into Pacific ports to release more American grain for Europe. Negotiations with Japan and Scandinavia for shipping are nearly complete enabling 1,665,000 bushels monthly to California and 3,000,000 bushels to Belgium starting May 1. Hoover plans use conservation savings to supply Europe with bread.
The DeKalb Chronicle reports a Saturday night disruption delaying newspaper delivery. From 6:30 to 9:00 p m the central office kept subscribers informed, handling 69 inquiries in 75 minutes with patient telephone operators on duty.

London April 22 United Press. Andrew Bonar Law the Chancellor of the Exchequer presented a record budget in the House of Commons. He estimated the votes of credit for the coming year would total 12 750 000 000 pounds compared with last year’s expenditures of 12 015 000 000 dollars. He said Germany spends about 21 250 000 daily on war and its war debt stands at 340 000 000 000.
