Arrangements are under way for a mass meeting at the Elks lodge hall on Friday night to promote Governor Lowden’s presidential bid. Two nationally known speakers are to take part, one a woman and one a man, with Chicago bureau coordinating the speaking roster.
De Kalb management signs H Killiham from Chicago Normal, Louie Hilliker from Aurora, and N Cone to strengthen the nine amid strong interest from local teams. The nine earned attention last season, spurring a flood of requests to play them.
Washington April 3 Surgeon General Hugh S. Cummings warned that women who smoke face insomnia nervousness and a dull complexion. He urged an immediate cessation of cigarette use noting a rise in pill consumption and predicting a lower physician count if women do not stop smoking.
A recent strong wind caused light damage across town with a large tree toppled between First and Second streets on Pine Street. No injuries were reported as officials were alerted and responded promptly.

Batavia bowling team defeated the county rivals last night at Ballou and Olson lanes. DeKalb travels to Batavia next week aiming to rebound from a poor showing and redeem their season.
Railroads imposed an embargo on nonperishable freight into New York due to harbor worker strikes. J J Mantel, chair of the managers board, said the embargo may lift Monday as freight backlog builds. Police guard shipments while strikebreakers and workers clash. about 6100 workers out.

In Wabbsington on April 3 picketing of the British embassy by women advocates of an Irish republic ended early. Leader Mrs T K Gorlis of New York denied state department involvement but said the protest was regretful and would be prevented from breaching courtesy to representatives of a friendly nation. She added there would be no further picketing and believed the objective had been achieved.
The remains of Mrs Grafies Campo were removed from Fairview mausoleum this afternoon at three o'clock and buried in Imnwood cemetery. Roy and Ray Camp, sons of released, accompanied the body to Sycamore from Jolie for the funeral services.
