HL and P Fuel Supply Costs Rise Under New Contract
Houston Lighting and Power Company announced a Sept. 8 amendment to its gas supply deal with Pennzoil Pipeline Company, effective Oct. 1 1972. The average fuel cost for the year ended June 30 1972 would have risen from about 20.6 to 23.1 cents per million Btu with the amendment. Pennzoil, supplying about 50 percent of HL&P’s fuel needs, must deliver 2.8 trillion cubic feet of gas through 1984 under a formula based on seller costs, transportation, and return. The seller must allocate existing gas to HL&P and other customers as of Oct. 1 1972. Fuel cost increases will be offset by adjustment clauses, and HL&P plans to obtain additional fuel from other sources not covered by existing contracts.
