Deer Park Hospital won t require certificate of need
Deer Park Community Hospital executive director Douglas Kesner announced that because substantial investment was made prior to Jan 1 1973 a Certificate of Need from the Houston Galveston Area Council Health Planning Commission will not be required to obtain Medicare and Medicaid assistance for construction. Construction of the 100 bed general hospital is set to begin in about six weeks with a planned ten month build. Kesner noted architect change to the McGinty Partnership and outlined plans for a four story professional building and a health maintenance center, with future inpatient and fixed fee treatment goals. He described HMO interest and cited Kaiser Yale New Haven plans as models, asserting the project could reduce overall health costs.

Outside Houston leaders oppose the plan, claiming it benefits Houston only while taxing all county residents. Emissions tax is estimated to cost most car owners 7 to 10 dollars per year. Two Deer Park men and Richmond Road Eng Co official join the board, with other members named by Harris County officials and Houston City Council.
