The city approves Ordinance No 751 establishing maximum rates for natural gas service by UnitedGas Inc and successors. It sets due dates, payment provisions, severability, repeals conflicting ordinances, and imposes fines up to 200 dollars per day for violations, with effective dates for rates and the ordinance.
Sealed bids to repair and construct a Grass tex or equal athletic running track at Deer Park High School must be received by September 21 1970 at 4 00 PM by Charles Garrison Business Manager Deer Park Independent School District. Bid bonds ten percent required. Bids opened at 7 00 PM September 21 1970. District may reject any bid.
Deer Park United Methodist Church observes Vocations Day on Sunday September 6 urging worshippers to dress in their trade garb. City Administrator Clovis Mann outlines Deer Park 1970-71 budget totaling 2,369,830 with a 15 cent per 100 evaluation tax rise to 90 cents. He cites debt service, inflation, and staff costs as drivers, notes property assessment jump to 111,225,240 and proposes organizational changes including a separate city garage, centralized purchasing, and a Sack waste system to reduce future costs.

Sgt Johnny Monroe Dustin Koch was wounded in his right leg during a Vietnam ambush on Aug. 12 while his platoon was being air lifted to a helicopter. He led his squad after injury. He has earned the Air Medal Purple Heart and Bronze Star and will be sent to Brooks General Hospital around Sept 3 for visits from friends.
