Voters across Deer Park and surrounding areas backed all county bond issues in the Sept 27 election. Flood control and parkland bonds passed strongly in most precincts while Pasadena Blvd widening and jail rehab also gained approval, with notable margins in precincts 84 51 420 302 290 and 352.
Voters in Deer Park and La Porte Independent School Districts will vote October 4 from 7 am to 7 pm. Polling places include Deepwater Elementary Deepwater precincts 191 and 301 Deer Park High School north campus for 84 459 350 and part of 420, 420 north of X Street at the high school, 420 south of X Street and precincts 51 170 279 348 352 at Carpenter Elementary, and Lynchburg Elementary for 387 and 586. La Porte residents vote at College Park Elementary auditorium for College Park Lomax, and at Baker cafeteria for Brookglen Fairmont Park. Incumbents and challengers are listed for positions 4 5 in Deer Park and positions 4 6 in La Porte.
A Deer Park woman Mary Jane Grubbs died Sept 25 with cause unknown. Doctors say St Louis encephalitis testing may take weeks and may reveal no disease. Harris County Health official denies lab evidence of encephalitis. Grubbs, a Cleveland native, leaves a husband, children, parents and siblings. Services were Sept 27 at Colonial Funeral Home.
Candidates Freida Dobbs and Reginald Knowles spoke at a Meet the Candidates Rally while Joe Cathey and Bill Handrick faced challengers for Positions 4 and 5. The event included resident questions and a discussion of the district publication Insight amid a murder trial delay for Wanda Minnick.
