The Deer Park Bicentennial Commission and Heritage 76 urge citizens to learn Deer Park’s heritage in honor of the National Bicentennial. The 1847 San Jacinto townsite near Buffalo Bayou and San Jacinto River is noted, with Habermeh family buying a 10 acre farm near today’s Battleground State Park. College Park Baptist Church hosts a praisegiving from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. featuring Talmidge Miles of Dallas and The Inspiration of Pasadena performing in a day of singing and praise.
The Veterans Administration and HUD raised the VA mortgage interest rate ceiling from 8 to 9 percent effective September 2, 1975. VA Regional Director A A Hunter said the move aligns with market conditions to keep money available for VA loans, narrow the gap to market rates, and reduce large loan discounts.
A condensed schedule lists events from Wednesday to Sunday including principals coaches meeting at the Board Room at 9 20 a m FHA Style Show at the Lecture Hall H S 9 30 a m and Reflector orders at the high school. From Nov 9 to 15 the Deer Park Volunteer Fire Department answered five fire and six medical calls. A grease fire in a Brook Glen kitchen caused light damage but was contained by occupants. other incidents included a city truck rollover, a TV fire, a gas dishwasher fire, a grass fire, a highway intersection accident with three injured, an auto pedestrian collision, and two minor vehicle accidents with sick calls. Emergency responders also transported injured workers and advised medical checks where needed.
Three La Porte High School faculty members Mrs Maggie Bains biology teacher Mrs Jennie Reid counselor and Richard Cope land coordinator of the English department joined a 40 member state evaluation team assessing every school area from agriculture to health and library services. The three day review interviewed teachers and students and will forward full reports to the Southern Association of Secondary Schools. A London doctor warns that heavy coffee or tea drinkers may develop headaches fatigue or stomach pains from caffeine dependence, noted by Dr Paul Turner.
