Deer Park Opens 1970-71 Basketball Season
Deer Park returns six lettermen from last year’s district championship squad as it begins the 1970-71 season with two non league games this weekend. Westchester visits Spring Branch Friday, then Clear Creek travels Saturday as Coach Homer Powell fields a 7:45 pm varsity and 6:00 pm junior varsity. The Deer play 27 regular season games plus three tournaments, planning a Nov. 24 home opener vs Sharpstown. Powell emphasizes young contributors and anticipates a tough District 23-AAAA slate beginning in January with Pasadena as a potential early favorite.
