The Deer Park city council accepted Continental Bank and Trust Co of Chicago as the low bidder for 2 million dollars in series E general obligation bonds at a 4.34817 percent rate after disqualifying Underwood-Neauhaus and Co of Houston for coupon rate violations. The net interest cost is 722883.37 with a 3241 premium. funds will finance street work 1700000, water and sewer extensions 640000, and public buildings 290000.

School Board Awards Bond for Deer Park High
At Tuesday night meeting the trustees awarded a 3,897,212.50 contract to Rhodes Winston & Co of Chicago and the Northern Trust Co for sale of bonds for Deer Park Senior High School. The effective rate sits at 4.71871 percent with no premium. Six bids were submitted. Construction bids open December 7 at 7 p.m. and the contract will be awarded December 13. Architectural plans from Goleman and Rolfe Architects were approved with two changes. Canopies extended to pickup areas, and railing top angled rather than flat.

Frank Butcher of Spearman, formerly of Deer Park, was elected president of the Science Teachers Association of Texas at a conference in October at the Thompson Conference Center, UT Austin. A UT graduate with a master’s from William and Mary, he teaches chemistry and physics at Spearman High. He becomes president-elect in January 1972 and will assume the office the following year. The association, organized in 1958, has about 700 members and aims to improve science teaching in Texas.
