Hall Wins Run Off In Deer Park City Council Race

Walter Dean Hall defeated incumbent Stanley W. Young 486 to 344 to win Position No. 3 on the Deer Park City Council. Hall, an operator with Lubrizol Corp., polled 339 votes in Precinct 84 and 147 in 51, while Young had 251 in 84 and 93 in 51. The oath of office was administered by Mayor W. E. Black after polls closed. Mayor Black and the council praised Young for six years of service.

Wallace First Member in Deer Park Kiwanis Club

Rudy Wallace becomes the first member of the Kiwanis Club of Deer Park as Jim Godbe from Pasadena guides him to sign. The club organized April 16 with 25 local men and had 31 charter members by April 26. Charter night is June 18 at San Jacinto College ballroom. regular meetings are Tuesdays at the Hickory House. Interested men may join before May 18 and contact Wallace or Charles Culbertson.

Kronin Indicted for Embezzlement and Jailed in Houston

Patrick J. Kronin former Deer Park director of finance was indicted on embezzlement charges and jailed in Harris County Texas on a $20,000 bond. Detective Roy E. Davis reported Kronin admitted the crime during questioning and expressed remorse saying he aimed to repay what was stolen. Kronin forged an $11,060 check and was arrested in Columbus Ohio hours after losing his embezzled funds betting on horse races.

Deer Park council caps night with Angel Derby win

During a regular meeting the Deer Park City Council received a report that two women pilots Maybelle Fletcher and Mary Byers flying for the city had won the Angel Derby. Their next race will be the Powder Puff Derby.

The Friends of the Deer Park Public Library will meet Tuesday May 11 at 7 30 pm in the library conference room. Results of last Saturdays book sale will be reported. Also on the calendar Deer Park Planning and Zoning Commission meets May 1 5 at City Hall and the City Council meets May 18. The Fire Department named prime department with Pasadena as back up to handle alarms at the San Jacinto Museum and Battleship Texas. Homicide Seminar attendee Sgt. Martin C Perkins reported 179 attendees across 18 states. A new police officer started training in Texas City May 3. Librarian training workshop held in Conroe and attended by Deer Park staff. Deer Park police officers attended an Advanced Narcotics class April 27-29. more officers will join later.

Dan Watson Named to Rice University President’s Honor Roll

Dan Aubrey Watson of Deer Park was among the largest groups of outstanding Rice University students named to the President’s Honor Roll for the Fall 1970-71 semester. Rice President Dr. Norman Hackerman announced the honor, which records high grades as part of the student’s permanent record. Watson is the son of Mr and Mrs F Raymond Watson of 802 Harvard Deer Park.

Eagle Scout Loun III Honored in Deer Park Court

Troy Robert Loun III, 14, of Deer Park, received the Eagle Scout rank at an Eagle Court of Honor at First Baptist Church. He is a freshman at Deer Park High School, member of Troop 268, and has earned 28 badges plus the Bronze Palm. His Scout roles include senior patrol leader and librarian, with honors in Mic-O-Lay and Order of the Arrow.

Beaumont reader seeks Progress issues from Deer Park

MRS ALENE MILLER of 213 W 12th Deer Park requests the last two issues of THE PROGRESS while hospitalized at Baptist Hospital in Beaumont since Easter Sunday and hopes to go to her son's home there soon. Virginia Wings rates the top spot. City Administrator Clovis D Mann plans to return home Wednesday. MRS JOHN BROWN entered the hospital last week.
