Areawide push begins for Mental Health Center funding
Initial plans for a Deer Park Bay shore area community effort to back the Mental Health Mental Retardation Center were unveiled at a noon Friday meeting in Deer Park. Don Marlar of Baytown led discussions with J P Bonnette and Jaycees leaders Mike Culling and Bill Caraway, who will lead outreach to secure passage of the Mental Health Act and restore funding for programs. The Baytown center recently won a grant to build a Deer Park unit under a new community center concept, but funding is essential to proceed and to prevent curtailment of services in Deer Park and surrounding areas.
