Deer Park police arrested five people between May 24 and May 27. One for marijuana possession, one for auto theft, two for public intoxication, and one for not displaying a valid driver license or inspection sticker. The Petal Pushers Garden Club bricks sale details announced for June 7.
A special meeting of the Deer Park Independent School District Board of Trustees is scheduled for 7 p.m. Wednesday, June 1, at the administration building, 203 Ivy Street. The agenda includes board policies and the session is expected to run until about 8:30 p.m.
The Petal Pushers Garden Club will host a Tupperware party at 7 30 p m in June at the Community Center. For more information contact the listed number.
City council will convene in regular session at 7 30 p m Tuesday June 7 in the council chamber of City Hall located at lath Street and Center Street for the meeting.
The Center screens The Ugly Dachshund on Tuesday June 14 from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. and 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. Tickets are 50 cents per person. The cartoon will be a Roadrunner feature.

Deer Park parents react to a district move to transfer special education students to different schools. Officials say centralized classes free up space and align with state standards, with MBIs sent to JP Dobbs and ED students to Deepwater Parkerwood. Buses will pick up students at home, amid concerns of labeling and altered classroom ratios.

Deer Park police filed two felony charges against non residents this week. Lee Roy Bracewell Jr. of Liberty is charged with possession of marijuana after a van involved in a train crash was found with a 16 ounce bag. Thomas William Baker of Baytown faces auto theft charges after taking a 72 Chevrolet for a test drive and not returning it, with the car found in Cypress over 40 miles away. Baker has two prior auto theft convictions.
City engineer and officials contest a new flood map that places Deer Park citywide in the 100 year flood plain. The Water Resources Division study could shift the city to flood insurance eligibility. Protest cites inadequate surveying and flawed methods. The city has 90 days to file objections.
The Deer Park Parks and Recreation Department invites residents to a Saturday Kick Off Day on June 4 at the Community Center. Registration runs 10 am to 8 pm with events from karate to balloon race auctions and demonstrations. Helium balloons with postcards will trace distances. farthest travelers win prizes. The first 100 registrants receive postcards and prizes based on balloon travel. Schedule includes karate, tiny tots, hoop, frisbee, guitar, tap, piano, ballet, and acrobatics demonstrations plus the Great Balloon Race launch at 3 pm.
Robert Orr a 21 year old cyclist from 9907 Catlett was critically injured when his motorcycle was struck by a car exiting Georgia Street on Pasadena Boulevard. He was taken to Bay Shore Hospital at 7 am Thursday after being thrown and run over. The driver was uninjured and pending charges. A J poster asking for a stop light at the intersection referenced local efforts to improve traffic safety.
Ira L. Cook, 66, of Deer Park, died May 24, 1977, at a local hospital. A native of Jacksonville, Texas, he previously lived in Crockett, Texas. He had been a Deer Park resident for eight years and belonged to the First Baptist Church of Deer Park and Lottrop Masonic Lodge No. 21, A.F. & A.M., Crockett. He is survived by his wife of Deer Park and three sons James L. Cook and Thomas E. Cook of Deer Park and Billy B. Cook of Deer Park.
