City Council orders stricter enforcement on dogs at large and rabies inoculation, with three day impound and possible destruction if unclaimed. Library Board members up for reappointment. new park plans and rezoning proposals for Deer Park Outlet 110 and 111, plus a February public hearing and a new library inspection with a tree planting ceremony.
Next week's issue will be a Special Deer Park Jaycee Edition. Copies will be hand delivered to each residence on Wednesday. If not received, call the Progress office GR 9-3874. All ads and copy must be admitted by Tuesday noon.
At a Tuesday council meeting a joint public hearing with the Planning and Zoning Commission considered re zoning Outlet 74 a 10 acre parcel between P Street and the Deer Park area from District 1 to Apartment District No 7. Developer W D Lawther urged the change citing housing needs and projected city revenue. Residents opposed for fear of depreciation and undesirable tenants. The commission recommended rezoning, with a January 28 vote postponed. Officials announced a Friday inspection of the new library building and a special library board meeting next Tuesday.
The Gamma Gamma Chapter met January 13 in the home of Mr Louise Risinger with hostesses Mrs Dorothy Oliphant and Miss Billie Anderson. Miss Bobby Graham was initiated as a new member after the business meeting.
Deer Park seventh grade A team competed in Pasadena and other tournaments over the weekend. They beat Jackson Jr High 40 to 21 at home with Tommy Braden scoring 11 and Jamie Amos 10. They lost to Deer Park South Houston 43 ? on January 9 and posted varied results in January at San Jacinto and Southmore before a January 13 win over Southmore 34 36.
Notice that the Deer Park Public Library nears occupancy with a late August completion hope. Contractors work diligently to ready the building for acceptance and daily arrival of Time Magazine best sellers include A Small Town in Germany and The Day Kennedy Was Shot. If a desired book is checked out, request it be reserved.
Bayshore Hospital records show E P McDanel at 1238 Dutch Apt 2 and Mrs Glenn Williams at 1117 Alice with Opal Simmons, Mrs Vernon Husky at 906 Alyse. Pasadena General lists Watt Phillips and Xelsa Shelton who had heart surgery at Texas Children. Baptist Hospital in Louisville reports George Winburn, a former Deer Park resident, in Room 466. Dismissals include Mrs George Chapman and Mrs J D Eakin at Pasadena General and Pasadena Memorial respectively. Sympathy extends to Mrs Hendershot on her father Latham’s death in Canadian Texas. Nelda Dean, hospitalized at South more, has been dismissed and returned to work.
Deer Park Seventh Grade B, coached by Bill Barnes, finished third at the Cedar Bayou Optimist Tournament in Baytown January 10-11 after an overtime 29-27 win over Horace Mann Jr High. Dave Ramsey led scoring with 11, with Dale Brockman Chad Grauke and David Gardner adding six each. Randy Sorrells and Steve Brockman controlled the boards. Ramsey earned All-Tournament honors for the Fawns.
Deer Park Ladies Civic Club sponsors the March of Dimes Drive for birth defects research and causes. Marian Records serves as Co-Chairman with Sue Renfro as Chairman. donations set for January 14 to 21. volunteers include mothers and teenagers plus some fathers. Hickory House meeting 6 30 pm features March of Dimes representatives Gordon Cooper Joanne Allen and Joel Carroll.
Leonard Patillo business manager of the Houston Chamber of Commerce will headline the I Park Chamber of Commerce Installation Banquet on Friday January 17 at 7 30 p m at the Monument Inn. Mike Warren Equity Export Corp will be re elected president for a year with new directors John Puffer Clovis Mann and P B Dover tickets two dollars at the door or from any director.
The city approves a new fantasy land park in College Park. Parks director Mike Black and City Engineer Buster Ballard finalized plans last Tuesday for a 372 by 110 foot fenced shore with eight play zones including arches and ladders. Bidders invited to submit figures for a fully equipped playground with safety features and Elastaturf coating.
