Taxpayers to Receive IRS 1976 Changes in 1040 Forms
About 650,252 local residents will get federal income tax packages in the mail in a few days. Short Form 1040A users will receive forms by January 8 and regular 1040 filers by January 15. Changes from the Tax Reform Act of 1976 affect child care, retirement income, home business use, and sick pay. New tax tables cover up to $20,000 taxable income for quick determination of tax. Earned Income Credit eligibility expanded, but must file to receive it, with 10 percent of the first $4,000 earned and phased out as AGI rises to $8,000. The credit is refundable.
