The Deer Park school board approves sites for a new elementary school and a new junior high on land bounded by Center Jefferson and Lambuth and on the current W A Carpenter property. They move 600 portable bleachers to the high school field to cut costs and relight the north campus stadium with mercury vapor lighting for 41168.

Fort Bend Mirror Publisher Dies in Auto Train Crash
Eugene Bee Landrum editor of the Fort Bend Mirror was killed when his station wagon stalled on US 99 Alternate and was struck by a Southern Pacific train near the 2100 block of Sixth Stafford. Police and DPS said the car was pushed about 870 feet before stopping. Funeral services were held at First United Methodist Church of Missouri City. Survivors include Betsy Landrum and three sons. Memorials directed to Bee Landrum Memorial Fund.
