It's Impossible To Call All The Telephones
Southwestern Bell district manager Don Carpenter notes it would take over 500 years to reach every phone if one conversation a minute could be sustained. He cites The World's Telephones 1971 edition showing the U S leads with 120.2 million phones, far ahead of Japan, with Houston area contributing 1.7 million phones. The article discusses global growth rates, per capita phone use, and regional comparisons across the United States and Canada.
