Center Street Drainage Work Closes Block for 60 Days

Center Street in Deer Park is closed for about 60 days from just south of Pasadena Boulevard to L Street for Phase II drainage and paving. City Administrator Clovis D. Mann said heavy equipment removes old round drainage pipe and workers build a square drainage structure. An alternate southbound route uses Pasadena Boulevard to Pasadena Boulevard South and back to Center.

Chili Supper for Scout Troop 268 in Deer Park

Deer Park Scout Troop 268 hosts its annual chili supper from 5 to 8 30 p.m. Friday Feb 5 at Deer Park United Methodist Church. F A Ward calls it the club's sole fundraiser with Caffeys Lucky Seven Store supplying food and Deer Park Bank underwriting tickets at 1 each. City Council meets next at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday Feb 9 at City Hall 1302 Center Street.

Rudy Wallace Named To Head Hospital Board

Rudy Wallace of 1125 Helen Deer Park has been elected president of the Deer Park Hospital Authority board. Other officers include L. G. Moore vice president Marlin O. Cherry secretary and John Simmons treasurer. Other members are Billy Farmer Eldon Hughes Staley Keys and B. C. continued on page 2. The Rotary Club safety committee urges travel time and breaks. Friends of the Deer Park Public Library meet Feb 9. Deer Park Planning and Zoning Commission meets Feb 15 with a hearing on Jack G Simpson zoning change. Update Planned On City Improvements

Deer Park City Administrator Clovis D. Mann urged the Planning and Zoning Commission to return with a capital improvements recommendation by February 28. He said the city will market 1.5 million dollars in bonds in April aiming for an A-1 rating to cut interest costs, and noted a Moody Investors representative queried the updated program. The commission was reminded to submit a list per the City Charter.

Little League Registration Dates Set

Registration for Little League Baseball will be held from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturdays February 13 and 20 at the Deer Park Civic Center. Boys within Deer Park city limits aged nine through 12 with birth dates August 1, 1958 to July 31, 1962 eligible. A $5 registration donation and a birth certificate required.

Two Deer Park musicians named to All-State Band

Deer Park High School seniors Sandy Wiley and Patti French earned spots in the All-State Band after strong showings at regional and area auditions. Sandy was first chair at regional, second at area. Patti was fourth at regional and fourth at area. The All-State event occurs Feb. 13 at Sam Houston Coliseum with ticket sales at TMEA booth and arena box office. Sandy is daughter of John and Sandy Wiley of 1213 Kenny. Patti is daughter of W J French of 805 Norwood. Deer Park Fire Chief Odis Chappell received the Distinguished Service Award at a Jan. 29 banquet in Pizza Inn.
